Top 5 Most Underrated Players in the Premier League Right Now (2026)
The Premier League in the 2025/2026 season continues to be the most watched and competitive league in the world. While superstars like Erling Haaland, Mohamed Salah, Bukayo Saka, and Cole Palmer grab all the headlines and awards, there are several players doing exceptional work week in and week out without getting the recognition they deserve.
Here is my updated list of the Top 5 Most Underrated Players this season:
- Wilfred Ndidi (Leicester City)
The Nigerian midfield destroyer is quietly having one of his best seasons since joining the Premier League. Ndidi’s stats in tackles, interceptions, and ball recoveries are among the best in the league. He protects the defence brilliantly and allows more attacking players to push forward. Many analysts agree that Leicester’s survival hopes heavily depend on Ndidi staying fit and in form. Yet, outside Nigerian fans and Leicester supporters, very few people talk about him.
- Joachim Andersen (Fulham)
This Danish centre-back has become the complete modern defender. Excellent passing range, strong in aerial duels, and very composed under pressure. He organises Fulham’s backline perfectly and has contributed to their solid defensive record this season. In a league where defenders are judged mostly by mistakes or highlight-reel tackles, Andersen’s consistent, intelligent defending goes largely unnoticed.
- Morgan Rogers (Aston Villa)
The 23-year-old Englishman is enjoying a major breakout campaign under Unai Emery. Versatile, technically gifted, physically strong, and with excellent decision-making. Rogers can play on either wing or as a number 10 and has contributed important goals and assists. Many Villa fans believe he has the potential to become a top player, but he still flies under the radar compared to more hyped young talents.
- Jarrad Branthwaite (Everton)
If Everton can hold on to him, they have one of the best young centre-backs in Europe. Tall, quick, excellent in the air, and surprisingly good with the ball at his feet. Big clubs like Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Chelsea have been linked with him. His maturity and leadership at such a young age make him stand out. He is the type of defender every top team needs.
- Ryan Gravenberch (Liverpool)
This might be the most surprising name on the list for some. Since Arne Slot became manager, Gravenberch has transformed into a key midfielder for Liverpool. His dribbling ability in tight spaces, progressive passes, and work rate have greatly improved. He brings balance to the midfield and is finally showing why Liverpool paid big money for him from Bayern Munich. Many still view him as a squad player, but he is proving to be much more than that this season.
Honorable Mentions
• Noni Madueke (Chelsea)
• Anthony Gordon (Newcastle United)
• Tyrick Mitchell (Crystal Palace)
• Amadou Onana (Aston Villa)
• Lewis Dunk (Brighton)
Why These Players Don’t Get Enough Credit
The Premier League has become a very highlights-oriented league. Goals, assists, step-overs, and big-name players dominate discussions on social media and TV shows. Players who excel in the “dark arts” of football — tactical discipline, pressing, positional awareness, leadership, and consistency — rarely trend.
These underrated players are often the backbone of their teams. They make the superstars around them look even better by doing the hard, unglamorous work.
What Fans and Media Should Do Better
We need to celebrate football intelligence and hard work more. Not every great player has to score 20 goals or do rainbow flicks. Consistency over many matches, especially for defenders and midfielders, should be valued highly.
As the season continues, keep an eye on these players. Many of them will likely have big performances in crucial matches that could decide titles, European spots, or relegation battles.
